Your feelings are real — the words for them just feel out of reach.
Difficulty identifying and naming your own feelings. The emotions are there — you feel something — but you cannot find the word for it, or even be sure what emotion it is. Common in autism and often misunderstood as "not having feelings," which is the opposite of the truth.
How it works
Your brain may notice body signals and emotional shifts but doesn't easily link them to clear emotion labels. The pathways connecting physical sensations, emotional states, and language can be slower or less direct. This makes reflection and talking about feelings harder, especially under stress.
Think of it like
It's like hearing music from another room with the door half closed — you know something is playing, but the tune is fuzzy.
What it feels like
When someone asks 'How do you feel?' your mind goes blank or confused. You know something is happening inside, but you can't name it — and that silence gets mistaken for not caring.
